I have my dogs on Vetsmarts "Wellness Plan" (doggie HMO), so what I
did the second time was to do a "drop off" and told them about the
allergic reaction the previous time.

I had given him a dose of liquid Benadryl for children as instructed
and they were supposed to give the shots an hour later - at 3P.
Afterward I found out that they didn't give him the shot til 5P and
gave him an injected dose of Bendadryl (guess he slept VERY well that
night, since I gave him a dose at 11P). But this was awfully close
to the time I picked him up and I had wanted him there for longer.

Doc told me that some dogs do react and become lethargic - especially
among the smaller breeds, so he told me to watch him, wake him
periodically, and if I became too concerned to call him or bring
Beans back up to the office. I won't tell you exactly how I reacted
(being the over-protective chi mother), but when I took him back for
subsequent vaccinations, Doc suggested that I just leave him there
for observation! Probably saved the doc a million phone calls, let
Beans actually get some sleep without me waking him up every 10
minutes, and I was able to reduce my worrying (slightly).

downhill from there as she was lethargic and sleepy all day long! I
have been giving assorted critters (including
snakes, cats, dogs, horses, cows etc) for over 30 years and this was a
first for me! She is fine today but sure had me worried yesterday. I
will be consulting with my vet before the next shot for sure! Anyone
else have this type of reaction?
