depends on who you are talking to. In all honesty and fairness, the deerheads are not to AKC standards, which means , basically, they are not going to win any shows. Therefore, if you are talking to a show person, it makes a big difference. However, as for pets, there is no difference. Being a deerhead does NOT mean they are not full blooded chi. There are plenty of full blooded deerhead chis. The idea however, if you are a breeder, is that an ethical breeder should make all attempts to "better the breed" this means, in essence, breeding to conform with standards. So people who are breeding, should try to breed for the applehead appearance. Not because it is better, but simply because it is the standard set forth by the elite group of so called experts.
So, bottom line, it all depends on who you are asking and what their purpose for having a chi is. Breeding/showing...need a applehead...loving/playing.....deerheads are just as great! I was concerned about the longness of Nina's nose but if what I've read is true, she's what they call a deerhead. I didn't realize there were two different types of heads in Chis, but I've seen what they calle applehead and what they call deerhead, and I can see the difference. I did a search, and in one of the forums I came across there was a person who said deerhead Chis were poor bred, but in another forum there was a person who said the shape of the head made no difference other than appearance. Anyone have any input on this? Not that it matters to me.....I love Nina regardless! I'm just curious....
