My vet does not give a full puppy dose to a Chi. Normal puppy shots are given
in two increments. My vet cuts each shot in half and gives a series of four
shots. I have not had a reaction in either of the the first two and the new
pup just had hers today and is to busy arguing with the other two to bother
going to sleep. I have also found that if you rub the area where the shot is
given very hard right after the shot is given that it will not lump up. Of
course Cocoa screached at me for two days after the shots IF she remembered she
was supposed to be hurting lol.

to each round of vaccines. He was with the breeder the first round, but for
the remainder he was with me. Doc told me that some dogs do react and become
lethargic - especially among the smaller breeds, so he told me to watch him,
wake him periodically, and if I became too concerned to call him or bring Beans
back up to the office. I won't tell you exactly how I reacted (being the
over-protective chi mother), but when I took him back for subsequent
vaccinations, Doc suggested that I just leave him there for observation!
Probably saved the doc a million phone calls, let Beans actually get some sleep
without me waking him up every 10 minutes, and I was able to reduce my worrying
(slightly).

Pebbles was 8 wks old Thursday so I gave her the first booster shot
yesterday. She was a good girl and didn't even yelp! Things went downhill from
there as she was lethargic and sleepy all day long! I have been giving assorted
critters (including snakes, cats, dogs, horses, cows etc) for over 30 years and
this was a first for me! She is fine today but sure had me worried yesterday. I
will be consulting with my vet before the next shot for sure! Anyone else have
this type of reaction?

Cindy Lynn and the now Perky Pebbles!
