I've only been owned by a chi for less than a year, but from what I understand
from being a part of the group, and I completely agree, is that each chi is an
individual, just like people. Everyone (chi or human) has their own
personality. A lot of what they grow up to be like depends on how they're
raised by their human(s).

Rein barks at our other dogs when they're doing something they're not
supposed to and when there's a noise that's not familiar, mainly at night,
making her a great guard dog! When we're out and I see another dog or
something that might make her want to bark (like somebody walking by the car
from behind, startling her), I kind of warn her with a "shhhh". She looks
around to see what I'm shhhhshing her for and then just watches and doesn't
bark. When I can't warn her, a shhh or two settles her down right away. I
started trying to teach her to be quiet when I say shhh when we first brought
her home. I'd heard that chis could be barkers, so I wanted to try to teach
her to control it from day one. She usually does really well (unless, of
course, she thinks mom is being treatened or approached too closely by someone
she doesn't know. There's NO control then!!).

Ive had three chi's, two barkers and one not. My latest chi died
recently and I was heartbroken. I am looking for a new chi But by my
spouse doesnt like a "barkey" dog and says that all chi's are
barkers. I disagree but cannot seem to convince him so I'd like
everyones experience with chi's and their "barkiness".
