For me that is a problem with a lot of trainers (but not all, of
course) and that is that their Alpha waves are attuned to big butch
dogs and the energy that they eminate comes from that source.
When I took Connie (dec) to puppy pre-school. (They where not puppies
so why it was called that I dont know) and ALL the dogs where big) As
Connie herself was a rescue I did not know what her relationship was
with older dogs and she was frightened. The trainer at least
understood and kept us separate from the rest.AnD Connie did not like
the trainer because she carried big dog energy.
And with Robin I feel that he is too stocky for agility whereas Salome
(no fear Salome) would be perfect. With Robin I wanted to walk him
down a wooden pier and started to, when about 3 yards into it, I
noticed that he was scared and he had his feet splayed out, so I
turned back. When he is afraid my job is to protect him not force or
drag him down the pier. And the pier was not important and the sand
was nicer anyway. The best think is to go with your intuition and
maybe to seek out other small dog owners and start your own class.
Seeking out a better trainer and all chipping in to pay for her.
