My chi's name is "Bernie." We got him from a rescue org where he was called "Burnett", I'm guessing because that was the last name of the family who gave him up. Somehow, the name stuck (we tried others but this one stuck). So I changed the spelling and now he answers to a wide range of variants: Bernard (with french accent), Bernardo (with spanish accent), Bernie-boy, Berns, Mister Berns, The Bernster, Bertinelli, Bertinescue, and more (many offered by my teenager and her friends ... some of them not so nice since he invariably growls at them). And he's such a cute and funny guy that they all seem to fit!
