I'd use baby wipes, to clean the upper part.
This website explains how to do it, this is also how I clean my dogs ears. If
you don't feel comfortable with this procedure just google "how to clean dog's
ears" Good Luck!

Subject: Re: [Chihuahuas] Bathing a puppy
Hi everyone!
For the most part I am a spectator and have gotten a lot of great information
from this group. I have a question sort of related to bathing...ear cleaning.
My chi (Jack)... his ears get very dirty and I try REALLY hard to get them as
clean as possible but can't seem to get it all out. At his last vet appt. he
cleaned Jack's ears with a long q-tip with no problem. (He does not have ear
mites.) I am obviously not going to stick anything like that in his ear
because I am inexperienced in that but the tissue on my finger isn't cutting
it. I tried to use ear cleaning drops but he won't let me put anything in his
ears. For 6 lbs., he is fiercly strong! Any suggestions?
Thanks...
Kirstin...and Jack
P.S. I just uploaded some pictures of Jack. The folder is titled Scrappy
"Jack" Santino.

I've heard the same, as long as you don't use DOG shampoo you're fine. Human
shampoo is not contraindicated but in an adult dog it won't make any
difference. In a puppy could hurt it's eyes. ..human shampoos as I learned in
microbiology class are all the same they only different thing is the smell.
About dog shampoos, all dogs shampoos are the same what changes is the
concentration of the active ingredient (which "keeps" them from getting fleas
or thicks) this is also the ingredient that could hurt pups eyes. Shampoos are
NOT absorved through the skin. Medicated shampoos, well they are just for the
patient they recommended it for.
If your pup needs a bath, then bath him/her. In medicine NOTHING is against
being clean. The only imp. thing is the temperature.

Hi All,
Just took my puppy (Bitsy) to the vet. yesterday, and I ask about
bathing. Our Vet. told me that Johnson's baby shampoo was very good
to use.
Any thoughts??
