If they don't like the newspaper, pine, or doggy kind, try a natural 
clumping litter, something like Shwheat Scoop or World's Best Cat 
Litter (corn).  It smells much better and there is a lot less dust.  I 
use the World's Best Cat Litter for my cat; I thought the Shwheat Scoop 
was dustier.  They both beat clay.

My chis flat out refused to litter train.  I went so far as to try hay 
and pine shavings.  The cats really liked the hay though!!  I didn't 
know how to keep turf alive, so I didn't try that.  SO, they had to go 
out to the bathroom at 40 degrees below zero!!!
