That's true but you also have to keep new ones all the time since they smell
funny after a while.

There is an Indian legend which says when a human dies there is a bridge they
must cross to enter into heaven. At the head of that bridge waits every animal
that human encountered during their lifetime. The animals, based upon what they
know of this person, decide which humans may cross the bridge.... and which are
turned away.

To avoid this problem, rawhide products made of rawhide that has been
shredded and then pressed into shape are widely available. I've been
using them for 15 years with chihuahuas, they are very popular and
I've had no problems at all.
