Dear Joan,
my old trainer loved to give cheese but I am really against it. It binds them
up! and I don't like his stool after he's had it. Also if you do give it (or
whatever you give) make sure its only a little tiny bit. When that trainer
offered him half a mozzarela stick he ate it with relish (that was the last day
she trained him!) maybe a mozzarela stick is good for a golden or some other
larger dog but my guys weight is about only 12 sticks (LOL) so its a bit much.
It also took us awhile until we found something that was good for training.
(Its got to be consumed pretty easily so the training can commence) We were
using turkey or lamb jerkey dog treats which are soft little squares (still I
would break them up into quarters or less) I too am looking for something new
as I'm careful what I feed him and those snacks (which he loved) though marked
"natural" are full of preservatives and spices.
Try a teensy weensy bit of cheese but maybe its all just too exciting yet for
the wee one.
Have fun!

best,
