I personally have never taped ears.....I just let them progress naturally and
sometimes it takes time. But I have heard a LOT of good reports of successful
ear taping from experienced chi people. I have also heard of some of them using
a certain type of glue....maybe liquid nails...but I don't know enough details
to pass it on. I have also recently begin hearing that some are taping them
over.....like gluing the tip to the BACK of the ear and having success with
that....that seems a little too uncomfortable to the chi in my opinion.

I am glad you had some success with the ear taping. Are you the one that was
asking how to do it a month or so ago? I can't remmy who was asking, but
someone was, so I forwarded several people's versions of how to do it. Again
though, I have never done it myself...just heard good things about it.

Marsha I tried the tape trick to Pablo's floppy ear and it seems to be
working. His ears are always up. He has had tape on the inside of his ear for
about a week. I imagine I need to keep it taped for at least a month. Does
anyone have any suggestions. I just used clear medical tape and made an upside
down T in his ear. the pieces are small. I amy shrink them down as I go along.
He looks so handsome with his big ears straight up! -- em, Pita & Pablo :)

to some extent they do have some control. Look at one that is alert to a
sound and ears will be straight up, then look at one that has been scolded for
something and his ears may be down..And one in his normal calm state may have
them more at the 11 and 1 positions (on a clock).to some extent they have some
control. But in the puppy stage it is really just a matter of their muscles in
the ears trying to develop....Marsha ----- Original Message ----- From: [EMAIL

I have to wonder if they have some kind of conscious control over it. My guy
had the up/down thing going forever until we went to an all-chi playgroup event
in rochester, ny. (his first dog social with just chis) It was a st paddys gig
as the dogs were all in costumes so henry had to be 6 months old. At that time
his ears were never consistently up. (and I was a little worried) He was a bit
shy (there were like twenty plus chi's) but soon he befriended another little
shy female and they started to romp around with the pack, suddenly both of his
ears were like little erect pieces of cardboard! It was so strange to see my
boy look like that, when they were all running together I would not have
recognized him (as there were a few blacks) except for his little green jacket
(a sock sweater ofcourse!). It was a long drive home and by the time we got
back and for months later I never saw those ears that straight again. Oh what
we do for love and pride! best,
  michelle and henry
