I don't find you judgemental at all. Everyone has their own opinion on training. Using food rewards is only one way to train a dog. Some dogs are not as "eager to please" as others so it is good motivational tool. My dogs were trained with both treat rewards and praise. Also, I rarely ever use a treat as a reward for them anymore when they are good, I just praise them and that is enough. In the beginning, the treat was used along with the clicker to MARK the behavior that was wanted. It made it much easier for the dog to understand what was being asked of him and her. But once the dog learns the behavior and is consistant, there is no need to keep giving them food rewards. That's just my opinion of training. Yours is good too!
