>From what you are describing I think you mean a 5 th wheel. I would suggest that you start going to RV shows to see what is available. Sit in the drives seat, learn as much as you can about the different types. Then start exploring the used market for your first one.
What kind you want depends on the kind of camping you want to do. I know people who have washers and dryers in their campers. My sister raises Havenese and goes to a lot of dog shows. Her husband is over 6 feet tall and she carries a lot of dog crates. Her RV is a Class A, 38 ft. long, with slideouts, and is way bigger than I would ever want. If you plan to do a lot of government campground: National Forests, Army Corp, and BLM, you will have to think smaller. A lot of those campgrounds were built before RVs were super sized. Frequently at 26 feet we were the largest they could accommodate. That is one nice thing about the little Casita, it will fit most anywhere. If you are planning on staying in commercial campgrounds the newer ones will accommodate the large RVs the older ones may not be able to (but there are not many of those). If you need to have all of your clothing coordinate, and an appropriate outfit for every occasion, you need a big RV. If you wear jeans and sweats, and consider clean sneakers formal attire, then a small one will do. The bigger the RV the more difficult to drive in bad weather. In a high wind our Class A was like driving a breadbox, we hardly notice the wind in the Casita. We get a lot of high winds in our part of the country, that was a major factor in our down sizing. However on a rainy day a small RV can be a divorce in a box. I know I could easily travel with my husband (minus all his machines) and two Chi's in my small Casita. Please ask if you have more specific questions. Oh - the inside bathroom in an RV is heaven compared to the long walk in the middle of the cold night to the restroom when you are tent camping <G> Barbara & Raul ----- Original Message ----- From: AnneL To: [email protected] Sent: Thursday, February 15, 2007 9:58 AM Subject: Re: [Chihuahuas] RV ing with dogs Barbara, I found your post very interesting because my husband and I have been considering buying a used trailer to be pulled behind a pickup truck, or one of those that overlaps the truck bed, just so we can travel more easily with our chihuahuas. We love camping. The thing is, we don't know diddly all about campers.<G> We aren't looking at extended travel, just long weekends and a week at a time, two weeks at the outset. What would you recommend as a good starter type camper for two people and two little chis? Thanks, Anne
