Chiclet (6 yrs old, spayed F) has microvascular dysplasia (microscopic shunts within the liver itself that can't be surgically treated) controlled by diet, three degenerated discs in her spine, and mild epilepsy. She also developed calcium oxalate crystals in her urine because of her prescription food. She also had to have several front teeth pulled because they were too crowded and were eroding the bone of her lower jaw. She was a puppymill puppy, and the liver problem, degenerative disc disease and epilepsy are almost certainly hereditary. Luna, who came from an *excellent* bloodline, had pancreatitis as a puppy that flares up now and then, and she had a very, very touchy stomach until I started her and Chiclet on homemade food. The homemade diet has solved a *lot* of problems for both of them. This certainly isn't unique to chihuahuas. I have two large senior dogs with scads of health problems.
