picking your Chihuahuas up? I have had Cricket only a few weeks. I
got her at 5 months old and she is now almost 6 months old. I have no
issues with her, so far, except when I try to pick her up, she runs
away. She is very fast and it's almost impossible to pick her up. I
have been trying not to chase her around to catch her but when I need
to pick her up to put her in the kitchen or for any other reason, she
is very skiddish about it and will not let me. I have tried just
sitting there and waiting for her to come to me and that works, but
takes forever. If I need to put her in her playpen because I have to
leave for work, for instance, I really need to be able to get her in
there quickly and not wait until it is convenient for her. I also
tried calling her but she won't have it. If I am sitting down, she
loves to come and sit on my lap. She loves to be held as long as I am
not standing up.

I really want her to be okay with me handling her. How can I get her
to trust me?

Trust will come as long as you show her she can. If she has ever been
dropped or hurt while in someones arms it may take a little time.
Start calling her a little earlier when you need to put her in the
playpen, and keep your voice normal. Do not let her hear frustration
or anger. I got one 3 1/2 pound rescue when he was 3 and all I do now
is put my hand down and cup my fingers facing me and say PARK and he
comes running and centers his tummy right in my palm. Keep trying it
will come.
