Subject: Re: [Chihuahuas] Tick preventative

Sadly, I've tried everything, herbal repellent, neems oil, collars,
vigilance. Henry got bit in December (of all times, as winter was late), and
shortly after (though showing no symptoms) tested positive for three tick
borne diseases: Erlichiosis, Lymes and Anaplasma P. (By the time they do
show lameness, they're at a very late stage) I swore I'd never poison him
with the topicals, but as I face down another tick season, (after the snow's
gone), I'll remember having to give him the Doxycycline for a month and how
hard it was on him (and we still have no guarantess its gone) and though
I'll never vaccinate for lymes, I will think twice before I let him out
unprotected. He too loves the hikes, the woods, etc but as I am sure his
life would be less without the freedom to enjoy the outdoors, I will need to
put a topical on him.

I was told by my holistic vet to give him Thuja for a week prior and after
the application to help them get through the toxicity.

best,
