I had a little female dachsie that always raised her back leg to pee and marked 
every other dogs spots.  lol....we thought it hysterical.  People would look at 
her strange, like is that a female?

I have to step in here, it is not only males that hike their legs, let 
one go on something and watch the next female, They will do it too...
