Ask her to try Dachshund Rescue of North America (DRNA). They are the main
Dachshund rescue, I believe. They have Dachsies in foster homes all over the
country that need forever homes. You can find them on Petfinder.org and they
also have a website. Before I got a Chihuahua, I was thinking about adopting a
Dachshund and I found that rescue very helpful. By the way, I decided not to
go with the Dachshund breed because of their high risk of disc problems.
Otherwise, they make wonderful pets and are very sweet and cute! My
mother-in-law and father-in-law have an adopted one named Max and he is great.

A friend has asked if I could recommend a place to find a dachshund or part
dachshund rescue. It must be this type as it is for her brother who has
recently suffered a loss and this type of dog is their family favorite.
Obviously she could go to a breeder but I convinced her its best to look for a
dog in need first.
She has gone online but I thought with all the combined knowledge here you
may all my recommend the best places to consider looking first. (any reputable
hobby breeders would also be appreciated)

If you do not want to answer on the forums as this is unrelated to either,
please email me directly.
  Thank you all so much.
