I have a 2 year old Australian Shepherd who I had flown from Washington
State to Virginia at 8 weeks old. He did fine and has no known fear issues from
the situation. I also had my Chihuahua puppy flown from Mississippi to Virginia
and she did fine. As soon as I picked her up from the airport, I took her out
of her crate and cuddled her in a blanket all the way home (my husband drove).
She was a little scared but I think she would have been scared just from
leaving her litter mates, ect. She really bonded with me on the ride home, I
think because "I saved her from the scary situation". She doesn't have any
fear issues from the flight as far as I know. I think she pretty much forgot
all about it the next day!
Ask the breeder to put a little stuffed animal in her crate with her so she
can cuddle up to it. If you can, get someone to drive you to the airport to
pick your puppy up so you can get her out of the crate and hold her on the way
home. I think it really helps them to know there is someone to love them and
keep them warm and safe. Bring a little, soft baby blanket with you and wrap
her in it. When you get home with her, just keep it quiet and calm and let her
get to know her surroundings. She should be fine! Congrats on your new puppy!

bad and will cause lifetime fear issues. Michele has assured me that she has
flown man y dogs and I know some of you have because I have followed the
stories but could you send me some reassurance? My sister says they fly in the
belly of the plane where it's horribly loud and this girl she works with said
she has known dogs that are messed up for life. I just would like more
opinions. I'm trying to calm down as it gets closer to the day but having
never received a dog like this, it's not working. I've always drove to get my
doggies. If it wasn't so far, I would drive to get Faith but its just too far
and gas is high again too.
