Thanks I get some and give it another try. I very leary about going beyond the 
quick since the'll probably bleed right. He starts to scream if I get too close.

I don't use salon tips, I use plain brown sanding cylindrical tips, they're 
quite coarse. Sand all the way up to just beyond the quick. If you dremel 
your dog's nails every week, the quick will shorten and you'll be able to 
keep his nails shorter.
