Those of us that live near the border between the US and Mexico frequently deal
with the Border Patrol one way or another. Off duty they are nice people, but
on duty they are very serious, rarely cracking a smile. Yesterday my husband
and I took Raul for his first family outing. We went south to a State Park that
is 5 miles north of the Mexican Border. There is an Inspection Station on the
road headed back north to home. As usual we stopped, the agent asked if we were
US citizens, we told him yes, then he looked in the backseat at Raul in his
little doggie car seat and said with a smile, "How about the dog, he looks
Mexican to me." I told him Raul was of Mexican heritage, but had been born in
the US. He let us through.
