My chi friend, Pepe' was a free feeding little guy for about two and a half
years. He was fine with the weight, always eating only what he needed. He was
an only doggie then.

At the introduction of a step sister, Misty ( a sheltie, corgi, terrier mix)
he has begun hoarding the food. Althought Misty is a solid 40 lbs and Pepe' is
only about 6.5 lbs, he decides who eats when and what.
He makes sure he gets first choice at everything that is offered. Misty
waits patiently as Pepe' decides which bowl he wants today. Only when he
gives her the "OK" to eat, will she have the opportunity to do so.

As a result of this behavior, Misty has lost a few pounds and Pepe' has
gained about a pound and a half. He looks fat now.

I tried changing to a limited access of food, by feeding them and picking up
the food 15 minutes later, whether they were done or not. This doesnt seem to
help.

Should I feed them in seperate areas at different times?

  What else can I do?

I worry about the little guy especially, because they are so little, they are
more suseptible to hypoglycemia unless they have some litte bit of food every
few hours.

  Any suggestions?
