The max weight for Chis in the US is 6 pounds, too (according to the AKC
standard). But that's only if you are going to show/breed them. Some people
like them larger than 6 pounds as pets, though. I, myself, like them under the
6 pound standard and to look like a Chihuahua.

At 5.5 lbs he is nearing the maximum weight for a chi anyway. The show
maximum is 6lbs (in the UK anyway)
