Yup, be strong. Let him make his noise, he will quiet down. Raul tried to pull the same stuff, and we went out anyway. Now he knows that throwing a tantrum doesn't work. He is very smart, if it doesn't work he won't waste his energy on it. We put him in his kennel when we go out. We used to find it half way across the room when we returned, now it hardy is moved at all. Also, we don't make a big deal about it when we go out, we are very calm, tell him he is in charge, and leave. Be strong, remember you are in charge. <G> Barbara and Raul [EMAIL PROTECTED] ----- Original Message ----- From: dasha48 To: [email protected] Sent: Sunday, April 15, 2007 8:32 PM Subject: RE: [Chihuahuas] Separation Anxiety
You may have to ignore him. He is trying to be the Alpha instead of letting you Sheila ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ From: [email protected] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of tabascojackpepper Sent: Sunday, April 15, 2007 10:16 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [Chihuahuas] Separation Anxiety Anyone have some tips on getting someone over this? He's NOT ok alone. It doesn't have to be us, but it has to be someone. He's NOT ok in his kennel alone -- makes more noise than when he's free-range. His kong only works to distract him momentarily -- he goes from Kong to the door, snuffling under it and whining. At first, it's just small (we call it under his breath whining) but then it slowly builds to the point where it sounds like someone is pulling off a hind leg. We've slowly worked from less than 3 minutes for him to get loud to about 10 mintues. Love him, but I'd like to get away from him and do some distinctively human things without having to pay for babysitting. How do we fast track this? Nikki
