Hi,

My dog got the surgery for luxating patellai when he was four years
old. His knees were bad though. I think his right knee was a 4 and
his left knee was a 3.

Right after the surgery, your dog won't be able to walk. You'll
have to carry him to go to the bathroom. I took the day off work to
take care of him afterward.

It's been about three years, and there's improvement with his knees;
however, you can still tell that his knees are a little funky.
Otherwise, I think he's fine. I started giving him Cosequin just to
help w/ the joints.

If you're in Northern CA, I had my surgery done at Acorn Vet Clinic
in Davis. I would really recommend them!

Good luck!

sounds like many people on this list have dogs who have had
successful knee surgery.

said that her right knee is really bad and that if she doesn't get
the surgery, she will develope arthritis.

Patellas? Usually, vets will rate the luxation of the knee, ex. 1
2 3, ect. I think that most vets will wait for surgery if the knees
get so bad that the dog cannot function. Most will tell you to keep
an eye on the dog as he/she ages and that the dog may need surgery
when it is older. I believe that most very young dogs with Luxating
Patellas aren't bad off enough to need surgery. This is the info. I
gathered when I was looking into it (I almost adopted a Chi with
Luxating Patellas). I am not sure of your puppy's situation and I
am sure your vet knows what he/she is doing. But, IMO, you should
at least get a second opinion. She seems very young to have knee
surgery.
