Oh, okay. Sorry, I misunderstood what you were trying to say, LOL! You are
right, neutering won't do much good once a dog starts marking.

Ok so I should been clearer, I was trying to say that if a dog was
going to mark, neutering won't stop it and that is pretty much what you are
saying also
The other thread was about how to stop the marking once it stopped. I found
that thread interesting. Some people believe you can't stop it but you can, you
just have to be on your toes a lot, so to speak

I think we already went through a "male marking" thread on here. But, I
guess it has come up again. You can't really say that a male dog will mark no
matter if they are neutered or not. It depends on the dog. I have a neutered
male Aussie who will mark outside and on walks. He will also mark in other
people's homes sometimes, depending what dogs they have there
(male/female/fixed/not fixed). He will mark for male or female, neutered or
unneutered. But....he NEVER marks in my home, even when my 2 intact females
are in heat. I don't think it matters whether a male dog lives with a male or
female, fixed or unfixed. From my experience, I believe it depends on the male
dog himself and what habits he has learned. Males don't only mark for female
dogs. They mark for other reasons as well. More often than not, a male and
female (neutered and spayed) can live together in harmony with no marking, ect.

Yes, but she said she has no intentions on breeding, so I would assume
she would get her female spayed. And I assume her male is fixed, too. Inside
marking is unlikely if both dogs are fixed.

Butttttttt a female may cause the male to start marking.

along. Why not try to find a small mixed breed at a shelter or rescue? There
are many, many out there needing homes. As far as male vs. female, it all
depends on your dog. Two males can get along great but males and females tend
to get along better, IMO.

Hello, I have a male Chihuahua that will be 2 years old in June who is
the apple of my eye :). My husband and I are thinking about getting
another dog to keep him company when we are not home. My husband wants
to get a different type of dog. Does anyone have any recommendation as
to what type of dog to get and if getting a male or a female would be
better. We have no intentions on breeding.
