I bought Raul at a breeder, as cheaply as I could get one at a rescue, cheaper than a lot offered on rescue. I got to see the home where he came from, he has AKC papers, and I didn't have to drive 400 miles - the nearest rescue Chi - to get him.
I had intended to rescue, but it just wasn't the smart thing to do. I do feel bad about that, but not bad enough to have a change of mind if I am looking for a playmate for Raul (which I am not). Was: How many dogs do you have? I couldn't agree with you more. It has gotten to the point that it is a lot cheaper to go buy a full blooded registered dog of any breed than to try to "rescue" a mixed breed! I do understand adoption fees for several reasons, not the least of which is to pay for the actual running of the shelter, but if most of these shelters truly are "non-profit" then I'm the queen of England!! Which is why myself and several others have started the yahoo group rescueachi to try to place chis in homes without these extraordinary cost. However, now that I am setting here with an adorable chi/jrt mix, seems no one wants him!!! So looks like I am gonna end up having to turn him over to one of those rescue groups that will charge someone an arm and a leg to love him! Boy some of the rescues and shelters are so expensive Here in Colorado the shelters I know of range from around $50 to $400 to $500 in boulder and a couple of other places. I know they need money to run the shelter but you would think it would be better to adopt out at a smaller price and get the dog a home that charge so much and have to destroy some. We have a chi rescue here that seems kind of expensive (to me) as well. Plus they insist on a home visit and I just dont like strangers at my house (my little phobia) LOLOL On 5/9/07, address2000 <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: prego200276 wrote: I am new to chi's. I came upon one from a real animal lover who gives her babies away. Wow!!!!! I wish I could come across someone like that.....my daughter still wants a chi, but even the rescue agencies online want $200.00-$300.00 for adoption fees....plus having to travel to pick them up. This is why I bought my Penny locally.....had to pay the same amount as a rescue, but at least I didn't have to travel. She doesn't have the money, since she is unable to work since a shoulder injury last Nov, she goes in for surgery this Fri. But I keep looking at the animal shelter listings, because they r usually less expensive......who knows, maybe I'll find her one. . --------------------------------- Food fight?
