I see several here who keep the puppies until 12wks. From an
owner/buyer perspective, this would concern me on socialization
issues. It's my understanding that between 7-12wks is an important
time for puppies to exposed to as many things as possible.A good breeder
would be socializing her pups. A breeders pups would not be caged vs your
puppymiller/BY breeder I would be
very hesitant to get a puppy later than 10wks bc of this. I know that
a good breeder will be socializing the puppies but each household is
different. This is a also a good time for the puppy to meet other
pets, etc. I would not want to miss that stage completely.

Most all of my dogs came to me at 12 weeks and had learned not only from Mom
dog but from socialation. My hardest case was my big dog who had separation at
5 wks. She never learned from her Mom and to this day has separation anxiety.
Vet says - to early separation from her Mom. Next I have Baby I got at 8 wks.
She adores me - is socialized- but hates when I leave her for 2 minutes. All
the rest of my crew of 7 - adore me but can handle when I leave for an hour.
Got them at 12 weeks. Personally - I think small dogs need 12 weeks with Mom,
larger dogs maybe can handle 10 weeks? Personal opinion, that's all. I am not
an expert.

  Any thoughts on this?
