Hi Michelle, It might be the grass ... how old is Twinks? Luxating patellas don't always show up until they're more on the adult side ... Elsa didn't show any sign as a puppy ... but now as an adult (but I can't remember exactly when we first noticed it but it was before 1 year old) they're pretty extreme. They don't bother her, and the vet thinks as long as we keep her at a good weight we have a fair chance of keeping it that way (so no treats for Elsa Rose - poor E.R.!). BUT - we don't let anyone test her for luxating patellas anymore, because once someone flips them out - they have a really difficult time putting them back in - LOL! I guess normally the vet just puts a little pressure on the knee and the knee cap pops off to the side if they have luxating patellas. Then they gently massage it back in. Well, they barely touch E.R.'s and they jump right over and it takes a lot of massage to get it back. But - they don't pop out on their own - she can run, jump and play and they have never popped out on their own or caused her any pain. So, she's good. I guess some dogs have them pop out when they walk or jump and it hurts them a lot. So, then we have Bessie Sue (we don't call her by initials for obvious reasons, so we call her Boo Boo instead). The Boo walks fine, and runs fine, and the vet can't pop her patellas out, but when she walks fast - she holds her left leg up. We used to say she "skipped" when she was in a hurry. We couldn't figure out for the life of us what was the problem with our under 3 pound girl. The vet was stumped. So, finally we did x-rays as the only way to find out. You'll never believe it, but she has a big dog issue - hip dysplasia! Only on the left side. The vet thinks she's so light, that she'll never have an issue, but we're giving her chondroitin just to be safe. As you can see, they can walk funny for a lot of reasons - I would check back with the vet if it doesn't go away and see if they want an xray, just so you'll know for sure. Shell

When I take Twinks on long walks, she starts flipping her left hind leg out. I had my vet examine her a few months ago regarding floating patellas and he said he couldn't feel anything. Do they all run like this? I notice she walks kind of strange on grass but I always figured it was the grass rubbing her belly. Michelle & Twinks
