Chihuahuas are very "one person" type of dogs. They are not good dogs for small children, just becasue of the fact they are so small and can be hurt easliy by a small child. Small children always want to try and lug these little guys around, which can result in the dog being dropped, which can possibly make the dog aggressive towards the child. Also shildren of that age seem to be more energetic and still don't quite have theri balance yet, so if they are running and screeming around a 2-6lb. dog, it could terrify him/her, also if the child falls on the dog or just tries to play with it, it may be to rough for a dog of this size. You know your own kids so you know how they will be, but I would recommend waiting til they are a few years older and are able to understand the delicate little doggy better. Chihuahuas also have to be well socialized or they can either become timid or even aggressive if not socialized properly from early on. They can be great people dogs, very faithful, very smart, low maintanance, don't need to be walked much, perfect apartment dogs, can be litter box trained, easy to take places with you, and get along well with other animlas if introduced early on. They can also have problems with their knees, tracheas (can collapse), and teeth. I have heard that the reall tiny ones are also more prone to health problems..ie: hyperclycimic (bad spell). However, I wouldn't trade my Chi for anything. She is sweet, faithful, a total mommies dog, was house trained easily (in a month, used a crate), gets along well with my other dogs, and cat (I have two dogs over 100 pounds, a Lab and an Alaskan Malamute), and gets along with my 9 yr old dissabled son (you really just have to know wha your kids can handle). =) Karri --- In [email protected], "leslieannesprofile" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > My husband saw a chi that he just had a fit for, and has now decided > that he wants one.
