Hi Gloria, Our long hair chi almost went bald when she was about that age and I got scared...But it is normal. It is called blowing coat and something long haired chihuahuas do. She normally hardly sheds at all, but when she blows her coat, watch out.
My short hair is a "Nervous Shedder" and can leave a lapful of hair at, say, a visit to the vets! The first couple times he did that I was worried, too! So much to learn with a new pet, and an unfamiliar breed. I've had my two for almost two years and they are still surprising me.
