Being gone for 10 hours is a reason TOO use the crate...not a reason not to. I
strongly recommend crate training if you are gone that long. But I would see if
there is any way possible for someone to come let her out at least once during
the day?? It is very difficult to housebreak if there is no one around for that
period of time because their little bladders can not hold it that long and they
WILL have an accident, which will only lead to making it harder to housebreak
:-( It is a difficult period of adjustment aint it?

Subject: [Chihuahuas] Housebreaking for Working "parents"

Does anyone have any tips for housebreaking when you work outside the
home? I haven't used the crate method only because I'm gone from home
for 10 hours? I started w/potty pads, but now Chiquita just drags them
out the doggy door onto the porch to play with. She doesn't
understand where is and isn't acceptable potty spots. Any help most
  appreciated!
