Depends largely on location. Here in KY an AKC will run roughly between $300 and $500 depending on the dog. Here, CKC is prevalent and it is hard to find AKC. I know in places like CA, a AKC will run you upwards of $800 and in OK you can get a nice AKC for $300. So depends on the location.
As for registries, AKC is the choice of most breeders with many starting to switch to CKC due to AKC rising fees. Others such as Apri, ect are starting to catch on as well. I have heard a lot of Europeans having a hard time getting show quality over there...seems it is a tight knit community that doesn't easily accept new comers. Not as hard to get here in the US if you are willing to dish out the cash. I'm just curious as to how prices for registered puppies vary throughout the world? I am in the UK and paid this year, £1850 for a SC bitch, £1100 for a LC bitch and £850 for a SC dog. (US dollar is roughly that x 2). They were all from different reputable breeders and all deigned for the show ring, although the SC bitch (of course the most expensive) has gone undershot so she'll neither be shown nor bred from. These prices are about average in the UK although it's actually quite difficult to get established breeders to sell to you when you state from the off that you want to breed and show. (You can often find "pet" puppy owners who have decided to breed from the their pet but that wasn't what I wanted.) I got references from my Chow puppy owners and other fairly well known people in the Chow breed to vouch for my breeding integrity etc. It took me about 12 months of being seen at the shows and keeping in touch with people before I got a breeder to sell to me, although admittedly, I only wanted them from certain breeders. I just wondered about the availability of Kennel club registered pups in other countries?
