upaction_view> I do not breeds doxies nor do I even own one. It is my nephew
who breeds them. It was really just a question of curiosity. He KNOWS he can
not breed his female dapple to another dapple, which to my understanding is
the same as merles in our breed....no merle to merle breeding......But his
male was killed last year by a pit so he used an outside stud with his
female this year and the stud is a piebald. I was just trying to figure out
what these means as far as genetics. If a piebald/dapple breeding is ok.
>From what I am learning, a piebald would be in the same category as any
other "color" while a dapple is a genetics thing. And like it would be fine
to breed a merle and a brindle chi, the results may not be pretty, but they
can be healthy, but a merle to merle would cause health problems like a
dapple to dapple would cause health problems, but a dapple to piebald would
be healthy.....like I said, this aint my breed, so it doesn't really effect
me...I was just curious.

You need to do thorough checking of your breeder, etc. just like in any
breed. Our doxie, Oreo, for which I just mentioned, is the healthiest of
all our dogs. However, it never, we weren't out for breeding and felt God
lead us to this little guy because I had in mind I wanted another female,
just because of have Maggie and mostly females in the past. Neither of his
parents were Piebald and both of his siblings were Black and Tan. I looked
everywhere to find him as our daughter-in-law has one she had when our son
married her and he is gorgeous. They live in Nevada but it appears that
around our area here in Ohio what I wanted was very hard to find unless I
wanted to pay for a show dog and price that went with some of those
breeders. Please understand I am NOT putting ALL breeders, down. As people
considered us breeders when we home raised our pets some 10 plus yrs. ago.
