well, the mamas sire is a blue and she's a light fawn with a blackish/blueish stripe down her back. i bred her to a white and blonde stud and thats when they produced magnolia, my funny colored blueish brownish pup. shes bred back to him and due in three weeks, so i guess we'll see how this litter comes out. i think i might go ahead and retire her after this one even though its only her second litter.

Here is one article I had found: There is enough concern about this hue that if you think you can breed for blue, you will likely get into trouble. One breeder who line breeds carefully can attest to some really bad coat problems in certain blue Chihuahua genetic heritage's. So cherish the blue as the special dog it is, but don't breed a blue to a blue! You can get a blue Chihuahua from a black and tan, a chocolate, or even a fawn parent. Obviously, to get a blue Chihuahua, the parents must have a recessive blue gene in their heritage, even if it is some way back in the line. The blue of a blue Chihuahua can be part of a brindle pattern or a tri- or multi-color coat. You can enhance the possibility of having a blue or blue brindle pup by making sure that you are mating dogs with genetic blue in their lines, but there is absolutely no surety in this. >From Anika's Chihuahuas and Toy Breed Handling Services comes this blue Chihuahua advice: "Blues and chocolates are DILUTES! Breeding two dilutes together will negate any full expression of color in your future litters!!! It can also double up on other hidden defects on genes that link to certain colors." --- In [email protected], Heather Ferrier <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > has anyone heard of the blue colored gene carrying more genetic problems and deformities? the last litter i had, the one with the odd colored blueish girl (magnolia), produced 2 babies. they were both identical in color and size, but the other girl had a cleft pallet and no anus. she had to be euthanized when she was 2 hours old so she wouldnt suffer once her body started producing waste. it was awful. but since then ive heard that blue chi's have more problems with weird stuff like that. anyone else heard that? i think they said blue and white dachshunds too. makes me reconsider breeding this female again. > > "As the deer pants for the streams of water, so my soul pants for you o Lord" Psalm 42:1 > > Check out our new website!! > > www.roundthecrosscanines.com > "As the deer pants for the streams of water, so my soul pants for you o Lord" Psalm 42:1 Check out our new website!! www.roundthecrosscanines.com
