It isn't that you CAN'T......it is you SHOULDN'T. There is always a chance that even with a small male, he may kick out a pup to big for the mamma to deliver, but when the male is larger, that risk is much higher. However, the bigger the dogs, the less risk involved. I mean breeding a 20 pound female to a 25 pound male would probably not be a big issue, but breeding a 5 pound female to a 10 pound male could be disastrous. It is all a matter of will the pup be small enough for mom to safely deliver?
I have never bred a female that big, so I can't say for certain if the male in that situation would be to big, but you certainly would not want that kind of weight difference in a smaller one. My female is 10 1/2 lbs and the male is 8 lbs. I wonder how many she will have when she does have them. Her mother had 3 in her first and his mother had at least 5 I think. Very cute! Yes, she had seven of the little devils. They turned 9 weeks yesterday and we have found loving homes for all but 2 of them. We still have one little boy and one little girl left. Trinity weighs about 7 pounds and proud papa, Jay-Jay is about 9 pounds. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: [email protected] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Wednesday, August 01, 2007 11:31 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: RE: [Chihuahuas] Chihuahua Personalities glad Trinity is ok and God bless that wonderful neighbor for doing the right thing. This morning I had a really bad scare. Myhusband put the trash out around 5:30 am and did not shut the garage door. Iwent to get a new trash bag at around 9:40, I realized that the outside doorhad been open for a while.Ã, I thought for sure that it was our little boy,Jay-J that would be missing.Ã, But it didnââ,¬â"¢t take long to realizethat it was Trinity who was on the run.Ã, She NEVER strays, and yet she wasgone. Ã, She did not have her harness on because she is still nursing herseven puppies.Ã, I was a nervous wreck. My husband drove around theneighborhood and I called our dog officer, who called me right back to say thatsome one on a nearby street had seen Trinity and because she didnââ,¬â"¢t thinkthat she looked like a dog to be wandering around took her in. This wonderfulwoman took Trinity into her home and called the dog officer to report her as a possiblelost/loose dog. I think that I am typing in run on sentances, but that is howhard my heart is beating. I am so happy that my town has a great dog officerthat put me in touch with the woman that took Trinity right away.Ã, This leads to my next question, I havethought about volunteering to assist our town dog officer. Anyone else here dothat type of work and what could I expect.
