Hi,
My dogs both caught it from out cat when we brought him home from the
humane society ... even though they had been vaccinated for it - LOL! They
did have a really mild case, they probably were sick for only two weeks,
with only one week of moderate symptoms. It was weird though because the
humane society had assured me over and over there was no need to quarentine
the cat, since there was nothing he could give to the dogs ... except kennel
cough! The cat (Hobbes) had to be put into intensive care for a week his
was so bad. Luckily, the humane society had me bring him to their hospital
and paid for his care, since he got sick there. Poor baby! It did kind of
make me question getting another animal from the humane society, since the
first cat we feel in love with was FLV +, so we couldn't adopt him and that
was very traumatic because we didn't know what was going to happen to him
and we felt like then it was our fault. Then Hobbes almost died, and
we had just gone through a cat dying of a lung condition that required
getting her lungs tapped every other day or so, force feeding her, and
giving her pills all of the time. But she just wasn't getting any better so
after a fair chance of trying to get her to heal, we had to put her to
sleep. When Hobbes got out of the ICU, I had to force feed him and shove
pills down him, just like the kitty that died too! So, When the dogs got
sick, we were pretty stressed out! In retrospect, they never got very sick
though.
