Subject: Re: [Chihuahuas] blood in stool (UPDATE)

We went to the vet and he examined him and looked at his morning stool
(thankfully given moments before we walked in the door and blood free).
He said it was well formed but mucusy and he thought it could all be from the
little bit of kibble (Evo) I had tried on him this past week (usually only home
made food is what he gets).

He gave me Chinese herbs and told me to put him on ID (commercial food) which
he only ate a bit of. He has started burping after meals this week which the
vet thought another symptom of colitus.
He wanted to put him on Miconazole (a Flagyl like drug) for ten days but told
me since he was eating and active I could choose to wait and see and if it
continued (if I saw blood again) to start it the regime of that.

I did go ahead and get a CBC just to see what it says ( and not that I had
money to burn..LOL) particularly since my vet is gone for three weeks after
tomorrow. so I hope that does not show me something worse. He also ruled out
worms with a fecal and did though it was unnecessary express his anal glands.

Any thoughts welcome and appreciated. Thank you all for your support.

Good luck, I know it can be trying all you want to do is make them feel
better and for them to just be healthy.. I hope they find the issues, you may
wan to google the symptons in k-9s and see if that may throw some ideas at
you.. Its a long shot but it may give you a better idea what to talk to the
doctor about

I never give him dry food but started giving him a bit this week as he
liked it (it was Evo, a good kind I was told). He is not acting too funny
except for lots of sleeping and a bit of shaking when its not cold, and he's
not a shaky kind of chi.
The stools are normally formed but have red blood in them, (it seems at the
end of the passing but I am not sure). I feed a homemade diet usually chicken
or beef with sweet potatoes and some green beans and sardine oil and vitamins.
I have done this for quite awhile. I did recently think he needed more food as
he seems sort of thinner than normal. He does weigh the same though.
The only change is a bit of this dry food, which I have stopped. The vet
wants him go on ID a commercial food, as he thinks this will stop it. Must say
I am scared to feed any dog food after the last scare and will try to just make
it like the formula with fresh ingredients if possible.

I also have noticed (past few days) him straining, at least I think so as
usually he goes to his spots and circles and its out. Now its sniff, sniff
here, go here, go there, sniff, sniff, take the position and then maybe not.
Its not right whatever is going on.

He did show a thickened stomach lining in an ultrasound from May, but they
let it go when his fecal blood test came out ok (after 5 grueling days of no
meat fast). He also has had an elevated BUN for quite awhile. (he's only two).

Thanks for all your support. We go to the vet in the morning and will do a
CBC can you think of anything else to test for. The poop was already delivered
today but I will bring more hopefully and also some pee if I can get it.
