chihuahua (mix) who was epileptic. i had him on phenobarb and pota bromide as
well. the vet also gave us valium enemas to use during seizure to prevent
clusters, which was his tendency. you need to make sure you are giving him the
meds at exactly the right time every day. also, that his fluid levels stay
adequate. so, feedings should be on a regular schedule as well. make sure first
of all that he is in the right dosage of phenobarb. in the end, my vet was
willing to increase the strength saying that even though it is toxic to the
liver, this takes some time to present itself. i remember something like 8x the
suggested dosage being ok in some cases and studies didn't show an adverse
affect on the liver. yet, i am not sure about other side effects. maybe i am
wrong so don't quote me on the 8x. the potassium bromide can be increased with
little side effects. this is usually the first line of
defense with meds. also, i heard many things about triggers in the diet,
environment, etc, but i could never nail down one. the only thing about my
foster was he had anxiety really bad. i think he may have triggered seizures
when stress was high- he always wanted to be with me and when i couldn't be
with him he got anxiety. my suggestion to you is to love him as dearly and
closely as you can during his seizures and do not be afraid. talk to him, just
hold him and squeeze him tight. don't let go and he will be alright. i know how
scarey this must be, i was terrified. especially as the seizures got worse in
the end. on brinksey's last day he had 25 cluster seizures. i held him in my
arms and told him i would make good on my promise to him, not to let him suffer
anymore. i loved that dog more than any other. i wish you well. --leigh ann

dusty still has siezures about every month and they are multible siezures most
of the time up to 6 at a time and they are bad ones. The vet also has him on
Valium that we give him when he is having a siezure. Is there anyone who could
give me any advice on this the Vet said there is nothing mors we can do.
