My male does that when a bitch is in season. He marks everything - us included.
He doesn't do it any other time?
I don't think it's excitement - if it's excitement they just piddle everywhere
in a trail don't they, they don't aim.
I think maybe he feels insecure and is marking you for his own. It will
probably stop with time
Are you going to have him castrated? That would probably stop it

Depends on exactly what is happening. If he is only urinating a little, it is
probably submissive or excited peeing. Since you said it happens first thing in
the morning and right after work, it is likely excitement at seeing your
husband. If this is the case, my suggestion would be that when he first comes
home or first gets up, to ignore the chi for a few minutes...give the chi time
to get over the excitement of seeing him. Whether it is submissive or
excitement, the worst thing to do would be to scold because it isn't
intentional.
If it is more than just a little bit...for instance if the chi is actually
squatting down and doing all it needs to do, it may be a battle of wills going
on or else a lack of full training. If this is the case, ignoring it would NOT
be good. A firm no and taking to the right place immediately is in order.

I have recently adopted/rescued a 6-8mo old unaltered chi male I've
named Tater Tot. He was doing great in housebreaking until recently.
I'm not too worried about that right now but about him peeing on us.
Every time my husband goes to take him out into the yard to do his
business either in the morning or after work the dog pees on him. He
doesn't even have to pick him up. Tater will pee at his feet. He
hadn't done it to me until this past Thursday. I went to take him out
and he peed on me.
Has anyone had this problem before? I don't know if it's submissive
peeing or not. The lady we got him from said that he bonded better
with females but he gets along good with my husband any other time.
I'm working on litter training him so he won't have to be in a crate
all the time while we're gone. Any help or suggestions would be grateful.
