Actually he had numerous health problems, so kinda hard to determine which symptom to attribute to which problem. However, for the last few years of his life, he was on several medications. He was on a brochidialator for breathing...the heart probs caused fluid build up in the lungs. He was also on a fluid pill to get rid of the extra fluid. He had some pain meds for other problems, but I don't think the heart problem caused him any pain. He did take a cough syrup for dogs to ease his coughing as needed. He lived to be nearly 16. > > I really don't know what to tell you to expect, as all dogs are different. But I will tell you follow your own heart, listen to your inner voice. Joe was babied till the end. He passed naturally (not pts) While there were no doubt periods of discomfort, I did not feel he was any real pain as long as he had all his meds. But he was short of energy and did loose his ability to hold his urine...when he had to go, he had to go asap. I think that was the hardest part for him....his housebreaking was so good that when he was younger if we went on vacations he would go days without using the bathroom because he wouldn't let anyone else take him out and he wasn't about to potty in the house...then when he got to where he couldn't help it, I think that bothered him more than anything. > > I know how you feel about your baby. Joe was an SD....and that is a connection that only someone with an SD can fully understand. It goes much deeper than your average pet companion relationship because there is an interdependence. So I do understand. My thoughts and prayers are with you. > > Marsha > > Do not tell God how big your storm is.
