--- Hi Robert,
I know how you feel about your chis weight. My male is about 3 lbs
over and I have received valuable info from this forum. I started
making homemade dog food about two months ago and Clancey has lost
about l l/2 lbs.
I cook up a combination of l lb meat, two cups vegetables, l cup
brown rice and l Cub oatmeal. Cook this to a mush (I use a crockpot
for about 6 hrs) and then I freeze in cupcake pan. I cut the
individual cakes into 2 pieces and keep in a ziplock bag.
One meal a day is l/2 mush cake combined with green beans (they have
no calories) and one meal is l/4 C diet Natural Balance kibble. When
he gets a snack it is usually a tiny piece of chicken.
I would definitely feed them separately. You can take the homemade
stuff and add water and make a very mushie meal for the skinny mother
and even add a jar of babyfood to the meal. For the overweight one,
keep adding a little green beans (l/4 C) to the dish. Some say let
the fat one have as much green beans as they want as it adds bulk.
I am sure others on this forum will give you a lot more information
than I can. I have learned so much and they are so kind to add their
opinions. Good Luck Leslie from SoCal.
