Enter your vote today! A new poll has been created for the
Chihuahuas group:

This poll is to see how pet owners/care industry feel about services obtaining
a state license to operate pet care services. Here in California there is the
Department of Consumer Affairs (DCA). Some states may not even have a
department of consumer affairs. DCA’s functions/details are:
- Protect/serve consumers
- Ensure competent/fair marketplace
- helps consumers learn how to protect themselves from
unscrupulous/unqualified practitioners
- protects professionals from unlicensed practitioners
- issues licenses in more than 100 business/200 professional categories,
incl accountants, architects, barbers, cosmetologists, embalmers, medical and
veterinarians.
- incl 40 regulatory entities (9 bureaus, 1 program, 25 boards, 3
committees, 1 commission, 1 office)
- establish min qualifications/levels of competency
- license/register/certify practitioners
- investigate complaints/discipline violators
- provides administrative support appointed by Governor/Legislature
- funded exclusively by license fees
- veterinary services do not cover pet svcs such as grooming, pet
sitting, boarding, walking, training, etc
- Benefits are that it would not affect private companies
- requiring conditions as an industry sees fit

In order to get a board or entity on the ballot through the DCA a petition to a
state legislator would be required. What are your thoughts?

o I agree that pet care services should be regulated
o I would sign a petition to help get the ball rolling.
o I think a regulatory industry is great legitimizing an industry.
o I think more consumers need protection in the pet care industry.
o I think having a state license would attract more qualified pet care
providers options for consumers.
o I think having a state license would protect and educate pet owners much
better than it is now.
o I think having a state license would attract more clients to use pet care.
o I do not think a regulatory license is necessary for any pet care services.
o I do not think having a state license would attract more clients to the
industry.
o I do not think having a state license would attract more qualified
services.
o No, I am a pet care provider who would not pass the basic requirements,
have a criminal record or just disagree with this type of consumer protection
in general.
o I completely disagree that pet care services should be regulated and would
not sign a petition.
o Pet Care Services should not progress to this level of quality assurance.
It is unnecessary.
o I am a pet care provider (walker, sitter, groomer, vet, etc).
o I am a pet owner or pet lover.
o Huh, I do not understand? I guess I would need more information to truly
understand this issue.
o I am undecided about signing a petition. I would need to know more before
making a decision.
o Eh, it doesn't matter either way for me.
