There is a different parent club for the jrt and they do not want akc
recognition. The dogs are bred for working.

So then, according to this, they are or at least were two separate
breeds....that is what I had been told originally. But, I do know that only the
PRT is listed in the AKC list...no JRT....so at least under AKC they are now
considered one breed. This description is more in line with what was explained
to me when we first got Micah....when I said no way he was a chi/jrt
mix.......Thanks for the link :-)

Here in the UK the PRT has only been accepted as a breed relatively recentlyIt
originates with Parson Jack Russell who died in 1883 at the age of 88. Jack
Russell was born on December 21, 1795 in Dartmouth ,a district already known
for its working terriers. He inherited a love of hunting and started out with a
small pack of hounds. With the co-operation of the local farmers, he set about
making life more difficult for the local population of hares and foxes. The
difference between the PRT and JRT can be found here
http://www.jack-russell-terrier.co.uk/breed/parsons_and_jacks.html.
The main difference is the length of the legs - the PRT is much taller in
comparison. Coat can be rough or smooth----- Original Message ----- From:

[Chihuahuas] Thoughts about Designer dogs....He's so cute! We have a short
legged jack russell. Too Dot is 11 years old and is very tolerant of the chi's
climbing on her. PamTo: [EMAIL PROTECTED]: [EMAIL PROTECTED]: Tue, 1 Jan 2008
