Subject: [Chihuahuas] OT: Biscuit probably at the bridge

I am a bit heavy hearted this evening. Our Biscuit, a Heinz 57 mix, is missing
and has likely gone off to die. Biscuit came to us as a stray in 2003. I don't
know for sure how old he was, but when we found him he appeared to be a year or
two, so he would be about 5 or so now.

We certainly did not need another dog, but we couldn't just turn him away
because he was blind. We took him to a no-kill shelter 2 hours away, but they
wouldn't take him, saying he was not adoptable and since he was blind, the
humane thing would be to put him to sleep. There was no way we could put a
perfectly healthy dog to sleep just because he was blind. At the same time, we
couldn't just let him run free because of the danger that would pose to a blind
dog. He did great as long as he knew the area he was in, but would run into
everything if he was in an unfamiliar area or if anything was moved. So
basically, we put him on a 50 foot runner with a 6 foot chain attached. I don't
normally like to confine dogs like that, but there are some cases in which it
is in the dog's best interest.

He knew the areas he could reach and was a very happy dog. But for the last
couple of weeks, he has been sick. He had lost weight to the point he looked
like a bag of bones, despite eating three times what he always ate. We would
feed him constantly, yet he continued to loose weight. He has also been
shivering and digging holes to lay in. Last night, mom said he was "hard"
.....we knew his time was up. This afternoon, he was missing. We did look for
him in case he was just lost and not able to find his way home due to not being
able to see, but in our hearts, we know he has gotten loose to go off and die.

I am sad because he was such a sweet dog, but I am doing ok because I know that
he was going down hill fast. My only prayer is that he died easy and felt
loved....... .

RIP Biscuit

Do not tell God how big your storm is. Tell the storm how big your God is.
