I have a 3 lbs. female chihuahua and her 5 lbs. brother. The male has
mated with other females twice now and has been pretty good about it.
The female recently went into her heat cycle and started to bleed small
amounts. I have gotten her a small diaper style thing from the pet
store to help keep the blood from getting on my furniture, to keep her
from licking it, and to keep the male off of her. She does not
understand what's happening and she seems very irritated by her
enlarged female parts. Although I will never breed the two of these
little ones with each other, we are wanting to breed them with other
mates and I will need to know as much as possible by then.
My questions are as follows:
How long is this going to last? Her heat started around the 13th and
she is still very swollen, red, and sore.
The male will not stop whinning at her or even barking at times, which
he NEVER did before, and wont leave her alone...how do I stop him from
that?
What are considered the "prime breeding days"? I am not planning on
breeding her for another few heats, but this will be good information
for the future.
