well the first two are easy...a breeder is anyone who intentionally causes two animals to reproduce. One starts by obtaining two fertile animals and placing them together at a time when the female is fertile. The problems arise when you start categorizing breeders......ethical, vs unethical, hobby vs professional, puppy mills, ect.....
The third question is a little harder and often depends on who you ask. There are those who think any breeder is an unethical BYB. And others have varying degrees as to when one crosses the line. I have my own personal opinion as to what constitutes a BYB, but I wont give it because it is one of those topics that can incite an argument. Please keep in mind though that I am a breeder. I disagree with those who are anti breeding because I think they don't get the concept that if no one ever purposely breeds, we will eventually loose all our full bred pets, and I for one do not want to loose my beloved breed. But I do think that BYB's give us all a bad name....... Marsha Do not tell God how big your storm is. Tell the storm how big your God is. ----- Original Message ----- From: arleneweaver2004 To: [email protected] Sent: Friday, February 22, 2008 8:32 PM Subject: [Chihuahuas] Questions what makes a breeder a breeder? how does a breeder start being a breeder? what is a backyard breeder? arlene
