Has the vet told you what degree it is? There are four with one and two
where surgery is not usually needed. I think the third degree should be
watched and fourth would need the surgery. Personally I wouldn't even
consider the surgery unless it was absolutely necessary. We have a yorkie
that is thirteen years old but when she was around two or three our previous
vet said she needed to have the surgery because they could pop her leg bone
out of her knee cap but when they are that young I heard that it can happen
until they reach the age of three or four years. We never had the surgery
and except for a little stiffness if she has slept for a long time she is
fine. I found taking her for walks strengthened her legs. It was the same
with one of our Chihuahuas. The vet (a different one) wanted to rush us to
get the surgery done. We changed to a holist vet and he said to just watch
her since she was young, since she was only two and (she is four now) we
never did the surgery and she is fine. She will run and run around the yard
without any problem. Hope this helps with your decision. If it was me I
would want to see the x-rays and possibly get a second opinion.

Hope this helps,

Emi

I'm pretty sure my 2 yo chihuahua will need surgery as he limps all the
time now. I would love to hear others' experiences with this
procedure. Also, we are in the Boston area - can anyone recommend a
surgeon?
thanks,
amy
