THANK YOU ! ! ! That sounds like a plan. Kiko is the only furbaby here. She and I are here alone all week and are very close. She follows along with things I teach her pretty well. I know that this will take a bit of time and a lot of PATIENCE. I will have the treadmill on slow for her adn be patient. I know one mess up will make her stay away from it. Gloria, thanks again and I will keep you posted. Diana

Gloria To: [email protected] Date: Wednesday, October 15, 2008, 1:48 AM Hi... Sorry it's late in responding. Anyway...bring Kiko close to the treadmill - have her just get used to the motor noise. Then you get on it - showing her it's harmless - at this point it's not turned ON yet. Have her watch you as you turn it on LOW. Walk - continuing to show her it's OK!! I have had to do this DEMO for the pooches - lets say for Luna, 2 weeks - Jazz, just tolerates it and took months. Kendo will growl at first - but will just tolerate it on slow - sometimes he gets clumsy...then jumps off unless I stay with him on the side. This is our Akita. Faith our Dobe just will roll with it!! - she'll stay on for 20 minutes or longer on speed 3-4. Of course, the Chi's are always on LOW. Now Kiko - should be used to the motor noise and seeing you walk on it on LOW. - Place her on the treadmill with you, having her feel the belt under her paws - I walk with them on my left side - on LOW with her leash/harness on - walk and encourage (good girl!!!) her to stay with you on the mill....begin slowly with her. Once she gets comfortable, then she can be by herself - you can stand on the side, while holding the leash straight up, so she won't jump off. Believe me this takes patience - don't give up. Consistency works well, and with some dogs take a little coaxing, just don't give up! What fails is that folks put their dogs on right away, the dogs don't know this contraption. ..they need to be introduced to it - other dogs don't like the noise it makes - So gentle patience will get Kiko going this winter!! Gloria Gloria, I had posted earlier asking how to go about doing this? Do I get on it and hold her at first so she can get used to the noise of the motor?? Do I start out with a leash (which she always wears on walks) so she thinks it is a walk. I would really appreciate your input. I feel so bad for Kiko when the winter comes and she just "sits around" when she is usually so energetic. Thanks a million. As far as chicken ,ect....a lot of people have good success on a the raw or barf diet. But, the best idea I have come accross for weight management.. .and this was told to me by the vet when we took mom's Chiffon in to do something about her overweight.. .....is green beans. We were told to cut back on her dog food, but allow her all the green beans she wanted. Green beans have no calories or anything..are mostly water...so they fill them up and make them feel not hungry. Just make sure the cans are plain green beans in water with no additives... ..
