Hi all!
Our local animal shelter was on the news yesterday, pleading for
dog/cat and kitten/puppy food. They operate on donations and are
normally a no kill facility.
They reported that they took in over 400 pets this past quarter.
Most coming from people that had lost their homes due to job losses
and forclosures. Sad.
Our local community, including myself, has come through again! Our
shelter is now almost full to the brim with food to feed the animals,
cat litter, and everything else a facility needs to run on a daily
basis.
I thank the powers above that we have stepped up, once again, to save
the animals that, through no fault of their own, have somehown found
themselves in the shelter, waiting for another home.
When I went there, I saw the most gorgeous chi looking at me. I have
no idea how old but he looked at me as if to say "please take me
home". My hubby is in the hospital, otherwise I would have taken him
home with me. It breaks my heart to see pets that have been so
loving and trusting, end up in the shelter.
What a sobering visit that was. I have offered to volunteer at my
local shelter in whatever way they need me. Walking the dogs,
playing with the cats, advertising, whatever. I want to help in
whatever way that I can.
Right now I have 2 horses and 5 cats in my barn. In my house I have 2
cats,a Great Dane and a 5 month old Chi. I am almost full to the
brim but I also feel that I could have one more chi. Dezzi (the chi
at the shelter) may become mine. He's older but not a senior. My
Great Dane has accepted the fact that she is not the only dog and she
too is a rescue.
I'm a sucker for animals. I love every one of them. I wish I could
rescue all of them. Dezzi is pulling at my heart. What will be,
will be.
